Postgraduate degree program in Viticultural and enological sciences

The Postgraduate degree objective is the formation of professional managerial figures, able to face the wine global market, with a solid technical-scientific knowledge. This Postgraduate degree course also has a strong practical connotation, through the development of activities held in research centres or large wineries, located in Italy or abroad. These activities are part of internships, led by qualified tutors. The training interventions are therefore based on interdisciplinarity and on the acquisition of skills in solving complex problems posed by the management of vine and wine production systems in relation to the territorial context, as well as the ability to design and use advanced approaches in the production, marketing and promotion of wines. Do not miss the study of historical and nutritional aspects for a more complete view of the production system.

In the first year the students will deepen the basic information acquired in the previous study cycle. All students coming from the different Universities will attend classes in a unique place, in Asti.
Two curricula are active:

  • "Fundamental", delivered in Italian (first year) and English (second year), dedicated to graduates in Viticulture and Oenology;
  • "International", completely delivered in English, dedicated to graduates in other sectors, as well as to foreign graduates.

In the second year of the Postgraduate degree, each student can choose among the various courses offered by the different affiliated Universities (Turin, Milan, Palermo, Foggia and Sassari) or by other Universities that have signed collaboration agreements (Padua, Udine, Verona, Bolzano), as well as the location where they will conduct the thesis experiments and the internship.
Three ‘tracks’ are formally foreseen: "Personal", "Table grape" e "Wine diversity, authenticity and safety".
The second year can also be held at one of the offices of the European Consortium EMaVE (European Master of Viticulture and Enology):

  • Italy: LM Padua-Udine-Verona-Bolzano;
  • France: L’Institut AGRO de Montpellier;
  • Germany: Hochschule Geisenheim University, Geisenheim;
  • Spain: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid;
  • Portugal: Universidade de Lisboa / Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Universitade do Porto.

Attending the second year with a foreign partner allows students to obtain the double Degree, (that of the Country chosen to attend classes of the second year) and the Italian one.

At the end the student will be able:

  • to manage and optimize the productive processes;
  • to manage research and development in viticulture and enology projects at farm and territorial scales;
  • to manage and promote quality and security of viticultural and enological products;
  • to coordinate complex activities in the viticulture and enology sectors;
  • to have high technical competences for quality and hygienic control of viticultural and enological products.
